The Beatles Story

The Beatles Story is a museum dedicated to the life, music, and career of The Beatles, located in the Britannia Vaults at the Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool. The exhibition follows the group’s development from their early years in Liverpool through international fame and their later careers. Visitors move through recreated settings associated with the band, including Hamburg, the Cavern Club, and Abbey Road Studios, while original memorabilia includes instruments, clothing, photographs, and other personal items. A multimedia audio guide provides additional background, with narration by John Lennon’s sister, Julia.

The Beatles Statue

The Beatles Statue stands at Liverpool’s Pier Head on the waterfront, where four larger-than-life bronze figures depict John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr walking together. Created by sculptor Andy Edwards, the statue was donated to the city by the Cavern Club and unveiled at the Pier Head, linking the group directly with the city where their musical career began. The figures are based on a photograph of The Beatles taken at the waterfront, and their location places them beside Liverpool’s Three Graces, including the Royal Liver Building and Cunard Building.

The sculpture contains several small details connected with the individual band members. Paul McCartney carries a camera in recognition of his association with photography through his wife, Linda McCartney, while George Harrison wears a belt featuring a Sanskrit inscription. Ringo Starr’s right shoe bears the postcode “L8,” referring to the Liverpool area where he grew up, and he is positioned slightly behind the others in reference to his usual position behind the band’s drum kit. John Lennon holds two acorns, recalling his peace campaign involving acorns sent to world leaders.

The statue is situated on the open Pier Head waterfront, making it part of a larger collection of Liverpool landmarks rather than a separate enclosed attraction. Visitors can walk around the figures and view the details at close range, with the River Mersey and the Three Graces forming the backdrop. Its location also places it close to the Museum of Liverpool, the Mersey Ferry terminal, and The Beatles Story’s Pier Head site. The sculpture provides a direct connection between Liverpool’s waterfront and the musicians whose early career remains closely associated with the city.
